Interactive Onboarding & Keyboard Shortcuts
Ditch the mouse. Learn how Jett's Vim-inspired keys, multi-select Visual Mode, and layout controls speed up your email workflows far beyond Gmail.
Onboarding and Shortcuts
Traditional email clients like Gmail were designed for the mouse-and-click era. You receive a mail, move your cursor to check a box, move it up to click "Archive", then move it to the sidebar to switch tabs. Every email action is a friction point.
Jett is built for speed. By bringing developer-centric navigation (Vim keys) and productivity flows (VS Code tab switching) to your inbox, Jett allows you to process hours of email in minutes.
Pro Tip: Keep your hands on the home row. Running email actions in Jett is entirely key-driven, allowing you to breeze through your inbox at lightning speed.
1. Vim-Inspired Thread Navigation
If you have ever used Vim or VS Code, this will feel like second nature. Instead of reaching for your mouse to scroll and click, keep your hands on the home row:
- j / k: Navigate down / up the thread list instantly.
- g g: Jump straight to the first (newest) email thread.
- Shift + G: Jump to the last thread in your inbox.
2. Power Actions: Done & Undone
Archive and manage threads with single-keystrokes:
- d: Mark the active thread as Done (Archived). The thread slides away and your focus moves to the next mail.
- u: Mark a thread as Undone (Undo).
3. Visual Mode: Bulk Operations Reimagined
In Gmail, bulk selecting emails requires clicking tiny check boxes one-by-one. In Jett, you do it the editor way:
- Shift + V: Enter Visual Mode.
- j / k: Expand your selection block down or up.
- d / u: Perform actions (like marking as Done/Undone) on all selected threads at once.
- Escape: Exit Visual Mode instantly.
4. Window & Category Layout Controls
Toggle your workspace panels on the fly:
- Cmd / Ctrl + u: Toggle the reading pane (second panel) to focus purely on the thread list or expand the content.
- Cmd / Ctrl + i: Toggle Fullscreen Mode to read a thread with zero distractions.
- Cmd / Ctrl + Tab: Switch categories (All, Todo, Important, Spam) using a VS Code-style history switcher.
Try the Interactive Onboarding Tour
If you are new to keyboard-driven navigation, don't worry. Jett includes an Interactive Onboarding Tour that guides you through these shortcuts live in your dashboard. Give it a spin, and you will never go back to clicking through your inbox again.
